Any PORT In A Storm

Well, guess what?  Tomorrow that lucky, lucky Goatmother gets to visit the World's Greatest Surgeon again!  Why, you ask?  Well, the Goatmother is getting a PORT put in.  This will be so they can give her the chemotherapy treatments better.  She is a little apprehensive because, well, who wouldn't be?  I mean I know I would be.  After all, it is something new and different and it doesn't involve Peanuts.  However, one of the GoatNeighbors reminded the Goatmother that receiving such a thing obviously meant that she was a very 'PORTant person.

I think that makes a lot of sense.  As a result, I have been doing a bit of contemplation in this regard, and I believe I have come to some very imPORTant conclusions.  First of all, this will provide the Goatmother with a very convenient PORT of Entry and she won't even be asked for a passPORT.  And naturally, it will be very PORTable since she will be taking it with her everywhere she goes.  It is quite clear this is a great opPORTunity.

Now we don't have a scheduled dePORTation date and we think it likely the Goatmother will be sPORTing it for a whole year.  I mean you just never know when such a thing might prove convenient.  Just as long as they don't decide to put in a PORT-a-potty, I think we might be okay.   Although, come to think of it, that might prove to be kind of convenient as well.

At any rate, today the Goatmother and Goatfather got to meet the Nutritionist!  They had nothing but wonderful things to say about this woman and she simply has to be the best because she even consented to have her picture taken.  Now how many nutritionists do you know that are ready, willing and able to be on a goat's blog?  I think I might even consider sharing a few of my Peanuts with her.  I wonder if she does goat nutrition consulting?  She may even know things like where the choicest Peanuts are grown and what kind of terroir produces the best quality.  You just never know until you ask.  I guess that's true in a lot of respects, come to think of it.

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tower high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King

Well, we all know that the Goatmother IS very 'PORTant! :)
Tell her not to be too concerned about her PORT though Marigold, my SIL has one currently to receive antibiotic infusions for a nasty bacterial infection she picked up here in AZ. The PORT will be a very imPORTant part of the Goatmother's recovery!

A nutritionalist who has agreed to go on a goats blog would be one thing, but to go on your blog Marigold, that's like gold dust I should think.

I've wracked my brains for port words, but I don't think I'm running on all four cylinders yet, give me a shower and a cup of tea and then maybe their might be a spark! Hubby's only suggestions Portland and Portugal.....I think he needs a holiday!

That nutritionist is a good sPORT. As is the Goatmother.

Marigold said...

Dear Terry,
Ha! Yes, she is a good sPORT! :)

Dear Faith,
That's okay. The Goatmother doesn't EVER run on all four cylinders in the morning. Tea is a good thing. :)

But! Being so close to Marigold, wouldn't you be one to do-a-first?

All kidding aside, lots and lots of gentle hugs........

Dear Auntie,
Actually the PORT-giver is our beloved surgeon, so you already have a picture. We made history and we didn't even know it. :) None-the-less thank you for the hugs. We have passed those hugs around, giving the goats' share to the Goatmother, so it's all good! And, we will be sure to rePORT any news!

Back when Mr. M was having his Year of Brain Surgeries, he had a port(Hickman cath?) put in. Not only that, but they gave him a bonus jet-pack containing a mini infusion pump and bags of powerful antibiotics so he could get medicine pumped in round-the clock. (He had a very elusive and hard-to-cure infection.) He wore the jet-pack for weeks and I seriously expected him to take off flying at any time ... Antibiotic Man!

When the time finally came to have the port removed, we were rather apprehensive about the procedure. On the morning of the day the surgeon was scheduled to remove it, we woke up to find the catheter lying on the sheets. It had fallen out in the night. Pretty good timing, we thought! And it saved us a doctor visit.

All of this is just to say that a Port is a Good Thing, and, though kind of weird and invasive, very easy to live with.

P.S. For some reason I am thinking of the movie Stargate. If the Goatmother finds any odd symbols incised around the edges of her Port, tell her to be sure to locate a good translator, and always carry some candy bars just in case she needs to connect with an alien civilization. Or Peanuts would do as well. :)

You do a great job of keeping us updated on all this imPORTant information. Wishing your Goatmother the very best.

Now all I can think about is the transPORTer on Star Trek!I wonder if they ever transported goats in that show? Praying for the Goatmother every day!

Marigold, thanks for the update, and I hope all went well today, and Goatmother didn't get exPORTed. That wouldn't be good. Unless she went straight to PORTugal from the airPORT, and then it might be kind of fun. But then you wouldn't be nearby to supPORT her, so nevermind.

(and lest you think I'm clever, let me disabuse you of that notion right quick - I just googled "words with port" and found lots of ideas) :)

Marigold. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again: CANCER SUCKS. But, Goatmother, even this is "doable." Much love, hugs, and infinite peanuts....

We are very thankful for the rePORTS on the Goatmothers treatments and want ot give our supPORT. We are happy for the rapPORT and opPORTunity she has with those in charge to get the right PORTion of chemo so to PORTend a good outcome. Thankfully she is less PORTly and more prePORTioned which of course will enable her to PORTage herself easier to treatments. Also sticking to diet changes and avoiding PORTerhouse steaks, trading them for PORTobello mushrooms. This will of course PORTray even a prettier PORTrait if the Goatmother wishes to bless us with another picture on her post. So we hope the Goatmother gets plenty of rest on the davenPORT and not think for a minute she is unimPORTant to us all but to remember she is very imPORTant.

Dear BuffyBelle,
Thank you for your supPORT and your PORTrayal of the word PORT. :)

Dear Denise,
We are 'doin'! :)

Dear Mrs. Micawber,
The Goatmother did lose some time. I guess we better check for those symbols. Sadly, though, I don't think there is any way this one is gonna' fall out.

Marigold said...

Dear Ginnie,
The Goatmother says to tell you she thinks she'd rather be in PORTugal. :)

Marigold said...

Dear Melodie,
Oh! TransPORTer! We are Trekkies here! Beam me up, Scotty!!!

Marigold said...

Dear Millie,
Thank you! The Goatmother and Goatfather are going to wear matching 'Butt the Hay' shirts to the first chemo session. :)

Goatmother has an extraordinary sense of humor and THAT will make her breeze through this like no other! Anxiously waiting to hear any and all news, so keep us updated. I got to keep my port after they removed it. I had to go look at it again..I haven't thought about it in years. By now your done, but I hope Goatmothers nap was restful and all is well!

Marigold said...

Dear DebH,
Now if she can just keep that sense of humor.
